  Clinic Dental Assistant Reports to: Dentist/Practice Manager   Office Location: Bronx, NY    Position Description The dental assistant is responsible for assisting the dentists and dental hygienist in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients. The dental assistant is also responsible for sterilization, preparation and inventory of dental instruments and supplies, and laboratory duties.     Schedule: 2 days/week. Wed (12pm-7pm) & Saturday's (8:30am - 2pm)   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Assist in the delivery of quality and compassionate care to patients under direct supervision of the dentist - Prepare operatory, dental instruments and materials for patient treatment - Provide four-handed chairside assistance to support patient care - Complete accurate documentation of patient information, treatment plans and procedures in patient record - Safely operate radiographic equipment and expose dental x-rays - Comply with and practice acceptable infection control and sterilization techniques - Maintain equipment and dental supply inventory - Maintain laboratory and lab cases - Follow established safety/risk management practices in performing duties - Member of the quality assurance/risk management committee - Perform administrative tasks as assigned   QUALIFICATIONS - Superior knowledge of dentistry and dental terminology - Minimum 1-year experience as a Dental Assistant - Certified Dental Assistant (preferred) - Current BLS certification - Experience with digital x-rays - Valid State ID

We are devoted to the ideal that all children deserve high-quality dental care. Our innovative program treats kids in the familiar surroundings of their schools, bringing much needed dental care to kids who may not otherwise have access. We proudly serve children in the 5 boroughs of New York City as well as Westchester County.   Each team has a licensed dentist and at least two other staff members which may include a dental hygienist, dental assistant and/or x-ray technician. Services that are provided include: dental examinations, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants and any necessary digital radiograph.    Job Overview: Smile New York Outreach is looking for a School Partnership Coordinator to drive participation at our partner schools while engaging children in the importance of oral health. Serving children in over 400 NY area schools, Smile New York Outreach brings dental care to those students with the highest need in a comfortable and effective way.   In this role, you will be traveling to 2-4 schools per day within all boroughs of New York City to build critical school partnerships and school investment in the dental program.  Working collaboratively with the Director of Smile NY, you will plan best ways to engage more students in struggling schools to enroll in the program. Strategies may include, but are not limited to: - Discussions with school leaders such as principals, parent coordinators, school nurses and social workers - Presentations about oral health to classrooms and/or grade levels - Attendance at parent meetings, PTA meetings, school fairs, back to school nights, teacher conferences, career fairs, and any other school events - Pre-visits to schools to assure logistics/space can accommodate dental services You will be reporting to our New York Program Director, but you will need to be able to manage your day to day schedule without direct supervision.   Requirements: - Background in healthcare or dental care is a plus - Willingness to support Director and Smile America Partners support staff in any way to achieve goals- excellent team player - Daily travel within the five boroughs of New York – comfort with NYC public transportation - Available to work Monday-Friday during school hours, including drop off and dismissal times, and up to 40 hours/week.
